Every so often, a night arrives that does not just bring people together, but it elevates them. On the 1st and 2nd of August 2025, one such night became two, as the Fusion Inyameko Foundation hosted its 14th Annual High School Nasheed Competition, a hallmark event that continues to unite young voices and hearts through the beauty of spiritual expression.
At the core of this event is the Fusion Inyameko Foundation, an organisation deeply committed to youth empowerment, education, and cultural expression. Established with the aim of fostering leadership and creative potential in young people, Fusion runs a wide variety of initiatives throughout the year, from career expos and leadership camps to interfaith dialogues, mentorship programs, and talent showcases.
The Showcase, which was held under the stirring theme “A Night of Faith, Hard Work and Divine Melodies,” the event unfolded across two evenings, showcasing the talent, dedication, and unity of high school students from across the Western Cape. The venue, filled on both nights, echoed not only with harmonious melodies but with deep emotion, shared purpose, and a radiant sense of community.

August 1st: Girls' Night – Voices of Grace
The first night welcomed the girls’ high school competition, with eight schools bringing their voices and visions to life on stage:
Spine Road High School, South Peninsula High School, Mitchells Plain High School, The Leadership College (TLC), Norman Henshilwood High School, Al-Azhar Institute (Paarl), An-Nur Educational Centre, Darul Islam High School.
The performances were nothing short of breathtaking. Uniforms neatly pressed, voices tuned to perfection, and teams moving in unison and it was clear these young women had poured their hearts into every detail. From classical-style nasheed renditions to modern rhythms accompanied by traditional drumming, the range of talent on display spoke volumes about their preparation, passion, and pride.
Mitchell's Plain High School soared to victory, taking 1st place and the championship title with a performance that blended discipline, harmony, and heartfelt lyrics. Darul Islam High School claimed 2nd place with their soulful delivery, while The Leadership College(TLC) earned 3rd with their powerful and moving presentation.

Special recognition was also awarded to highlight individual and team excellence:
Spirit of Nasheed Award – South Peninsula High School, whose unity and spirit uplifted the entire crowd.
Crowd Favourite – South Peninsula High School again, winning over the audience with their warmth and stage presence.
Best Drummer – Mitchells Plain High School, whose rhythmic mastery anchored their group beautifully.
Best Soloist – Darul Islam High School, whose lead vocalist captivated the room
Best Dressed – Mitchell's Plain High School, noted for their elegant and uniform presentation.
Each performance reflected more than just technical skill. It showcased the values of teamwork, resilience, and love for nasheed that these young women embodied.

August 2nd: Boys' Night – Power, Precision, and Passion
The second evening carried the energy forward with the boys’ high school competition. The crowd returned with excitement, and the stage welcomed the following schools:
Mitchell's Plain High School, South Peninsula High School, Darun Naim Academy, An-Nur Educational Centre, Darul Islam High School, Al-Azhar Institute (Paarl).
The boys brought a unique dynamism to the stage. Each group had its own flavour, from strong vocal harmonies to intricate drumming sequences, and from traditional delivery to experimental compositions. The room was electric, and the audience responded to every verse with cheers, chants, and heartfelt applause.
It was An-Nur Educational Centre that rose to the top, winning 1st place and taking the boys' crown with an unforgettable performance. Their control, vocal strength, and sincerity stood out from the very first note. Darul Islam High School followed closely behind in 2nd place, while Mitchells Plain High School secured 3rd with a powerful showing.
Additional honours included:
Spirit of Nasheed Award – Darul Islam High School, in recognition of their dedication and team cohesion.
Crowd Favourite – South Peninsula High School, winning the audience’s hearts for the second night in a row.
Best Drummer – Darun Naim Academy, whose percussionist dazzled with speed and precision.
Best Soloist – An-Nur Educational Centre, whose lead vocals carried the spirit of the night.
Best Dressed – South Peninsula High School, lauded for their polished and presentable look.

The audience left the evening inspired by the brotherhood and camaraderie shown on stage and reminded that nasheed is as much about unity as it is about musical excellence.
Beyond the Competition: A Shared Stage of Unity
One of the most touching moments of the two-night event came when all schools joined together on stage to perform in a collaborative finale. This moment brought performers from diverse schools, backgrounds, and communities into perfect harmony, literally and figuratively.
It was a celebration of more than winning; it was a celebration of faith, youth, and togetherness. The mass performance symbolised what the Fusion Inyameko Foundation has long stood for, which is the idea that we are stronger, louder, and more beautiful when we come together.
A Legacy That Grows Stronger Each Year
For the Fusion Inyameko Foundation, this competition is not simply an event; it is part of a larger vision. A vision where young people are empowered through art, where Islamic values are celebrated and shared, and where community is built through creativity and care. As they celebrate 14 successful years of hosting this event, the foundation continues to inspire the next generation of nasheed artists and leaders.
A Soundtrack of Faith and Hope
As the lights dimmed and the final note faded into silence, what remained was a deep sense of gratitude. Gratitude to the organisers, teachers, students, families, and volunteers who made this event possible. Gratitude for the gift of nasheed. And above all, gratitude for the spirit of unity that filled the air on both magical nights.
This was not just a competition. It was a reminder that through faith, hard work, and divine melodies, our communities can rise, connect, and shine.
